The Cave

Big data is a huge part of elections today and this is mostly because of Obama. When President Obama ran in 2012 he had a team of experts to help him achieve the most technologically advanced campaign in American history, this was called “the Cave”. This was based in Chicago behind closed doors, more than 50 data analysts used Big Data to predict the behavior of millions of American Voters. First, they organize the data because they are pulling from many different outlets and databases. Next, the data is used to conduct tests and continuous improvements; they used the appeals and voter behavior. Last, they make sure the data is the most efficient and effective way. The way President Obama drove his campaign with Big Data is something that will be studied and replicated in future campaigns.

  1. You’re definitely right, President Obama and his administration revolutionized ways to use Big Data to win elections. This was the first time Big Data was used in this capacity and was done very effectively as he won his reelection pretty easily. The Republican Party has learned from what President Obama and the Democrats have done and have taken similar action in terms of using Big Data effectively. This has changed the way part’s will campaign for years to come.
